Arrival:
o Doors open at 8:20. Students must be in class by 8:35!
o After 8:35 students must obtain a pass from the main office
Dismissal:
o 3:05 Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays
o 1:50 Wednesdays
o Please send notification if there is a change in dismissal plans
o If possible, refrain from taking your child out of school early, especially on Fridays!
Additional:
o Parents must obtain a pass from the main office before entering the building
Absences
o Absences severely affect student progress.
o When a student is absent, he/she will automatically be marked unexcused until a note is brought in.
o Excused absences: illness, death in immediate family, religious holiday
o Student has 3 days to bring in notes and make up work.
o All notes must include your child’s name, ID number and date of absence on the bottom of the page. (Note Regarding Absence handout may be used)
Uniform Policy
o Students are to wear uniform on a daily basis.
o School t-shirt and jeans can be worn on designated days for $1.00
o On “No Dress Code” days students may wear whatever they want for $1.00
Field Trips
o Students must have a field trip shirt (Friday shirt) for field trips- available for purchase
Discipline
o Color chart is used for tracking behavior.
o Class Rules:
1. We raise our hands to speak
2. We work quietly in our seats
3. We use voices soft and sweet
4. We keep our places tidy and neat
5. We are helpful, friendly, and fair.
6. We take turns and willingly share.
o Positive incentive systems include the following:
1. Stickers
2. Coupons
3. Lunch with Teacher
4. Recess
5. Treasure Box
o Consequences include the following:
1. Verbal warning
2. Time out of recess
3. Note/call home to parents
Communication
o Weekly behavior charts will be kept in students S.P.A.C.E. Binder
o You will receive regular e-mails
o You can stay up to date on our website.
o Feel free to email, write notes in the agenda, or call the school
Testing
o FAIR

o SAT 10th-Edition (Reading and Mathematics)

Homework
o Monday – Friday, daily practice, not to exceed 1 – 2 hours
o Occasional projects (some in class projects)
o Weekly reading logs are to be recorded on daily and kept in S.P.A.C.E. Binder. They will be collected Monday.
o Homework checks and reviews to be expected and reinforced.
o Computer homework (Reading Plus) to be expected on a weekly basis. (Starting 2nd Quarter)
o Students are required 2-3 sessions at 80% per week
o Students may get ahead at any time.
o Students are responsible for copying all homework from the board.
Grades are comprised of the following:
o Test
o Class work, group work, independent work
o Projects
o Presentations
o Class participation

How you can help!
o Check your child’s planner and homework daily!
o Sign agenda upon checking for homework completion.¸
o Check SPACE Binder daily!
o Go to office to request access code for the parent portal --- check gradebook weekly.
o Obtain volunteer number.
o Encourage Reading Plus
o Monitor your child’s TV watching. Research shows a direct correlation between children who watch over an hour of TV a day, and low test scores. Challenge your child to substitute TV with reading or academic computer usage- take part in these activities!
o Play Board games to reinforce Vocabulary and Critical Thinking skills.
o Let your child go out and play. Physical activity stimulates the brain!
o Bake together to utilize measurement skills and fractional sense.
o Help our class by sending materials to help our classroom operate smoothly!
o Volunteer!
o Hold your child accountable for his or her responsibilities.
